Recently completed projects
Taliesin, Mustique

I was recently very privileged to work on a project in the beautiful surroundings of the southern Caribbean which was runner up at the Cardiff Design Festival in autumn 2009. My brief was to provide a sympathetic interior scheme on a cliff-top house.
One of the challenges faced during the design project was that the house is
open to the elements in that there are no windows except in the bedrooms. As
well as these issues there were the prevailing winds to consider as the house
which stands on a hill overlooking the Caribbean Sea is in a very prominent
and exposed position. There were also the logistics of shipping, timing,
and appropriate furnishings and fixtures to accommodate the all these
issues as well as the very salty climate. All the upholstery had to be
washable and easy to maintain as well as specially made fixtures and lighting to
counteract corrosion in such a climate.
The architectural style of the house is linear and Modernist with nods to the
work of Frank Lloyd Wright. There is free movement throughout the space and
has every conceivable luxury from a Cinema and a Games room to a hot spa and
gorgeous infinity pool lined in welsh slate.
The result is a very relaxed informal space for the owners to feel instantly
on holiday the moment they arrive.
